Born in Graz on December 20, 1941, the Consul and Professor received the honorary ring on January 17, 2002.
Helmut List graduated in mechanical engineering from the Graz Technical University. In 1966 he began working for AVL, a company that had been founded by his father Prof. Dr. Hans List. In the beginning he was responsible for the production of electronic and fine mechanical instruments and the motor prototypes of the company. In 1979 he took over management of the entire enterprise. Under his direction, AVL became a company with a worldwide reputation. Presently, 2100 people are employed at AVL, of which 1300 work in Graz.
List also strongly influenced the research efforts at the Graz Technical University and helped start numerous cooperative programs with national and international universities. DI Dr. Helmut List is also active as chairman for research and development at the Industriellenvereinigung (assembly for industry), as ambassador to the Republic of Korea and in numerous cooperative research programs. He is also known as an enthusiastic sponsor of art and culture.
